The NHS ester reactive group provides the functionality for labeling primary and secondary amino groups. Nucleic acids labeled with this dye are easily purified with reverse-phase chromatography. The dye has good water solubility, but low salt tolerance, and is more hydrophobic than IRDye 800CW. This dye is not recommended for most protein applications.
